I sort of agree with JC and Lance. I have no problem donating my organs, but I can see why opting-in makes more sense than opting out. In New York, you sign the back of your license and list any "restrictions" for donation. If someone doesn't have that portion signed, medical officials must assume they don't want their organs donated. However, if they had to sign it to not donate their organs and died on the way home from getting their license, someone is assuming they want their organs donated. Saving lives is very important and the gift of organ donation is an incredible gift, but so is respecting the wishes of a person, whatever the reason may be. Since there already is an opt-in here, I think it would be too confusing to turn that around and change it.
